Fulham head coach Álvaro Arbeloa sees a future leader in Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, tipping him for a significant role within the club. Arbeloa's confidence in the 26-year-old was evident when Bassey captained Fulham in their final two pre-season games against Málaga and Stuttgart.

The coach also praised Bassey's personality, describing him as a "funny guy" but the "first one" when it comes to hard work. "I really love him, and I want him to be our leader," Arbeloa added, underscoring the defender's potential to take on greater responsibility within the squad.

Bassey's growing importance at Craven Cottage reflects his significant development since his return to England, following spells in Scotland and the Netherlands. Since joining from Ajax in 2023, the Nigerian international has been a cornerstone of Fulham's defense, making 30 Premier League appearances last season and starting 28 of them. His contributions were further recognized when he was voted the club's Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign after making 35 league appearances.
