Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella declared a "national disaster" following the earthquake. The event has left 111 dead, 87 injured, and caused significant damage, including 1,575 damaged homes, 37 completely destroyed residences, 61 collapsed buildings, and damage to 18 health centers and 52 educational facilities. The earthquake, with its epicenter in San José del Palmar, Chocó, was felt across a large part of the country's center and west.
