Argentine engineer murdered in Spain; suspect dies by suicide

A 37-year-old Argentine engineer, Facundo Rico, was found stabbed 13 times in his Madrid home. Police discovered his body after neighbors reported a strong chemical odor emanating from his apartment. Firefighters entered the residence and found Rico unresponsive on the kitchen floor, with signs of a possible pepper spray attack.

Rico had lived in Spain for over a decade and worked as an engineer specializing in renewable energy. Investigators initially considered suicide but quickly dismissed the theory. The building's doorman mentioned Rico traveled frequently and was not well-known to neighbors.

Authorities identified a 65-year-old man as the prime suspect. He was reportedly obsessed with the idea that his wife was having an affair with Rico. The suspect died by suicide a day after the murder, which has significantly complicated the investigation. The victim's wife, aged 50, had reportedly been seeking a separation from the suspect.
