Former Trump border "czar" defends ICE agents after fatal shootings

Tom Homan, known as the "border czar" under the Trump administration, defended federal agents' actions following fatal shootings in Houston, Texas, and Biddeford, Maine. He stated that if the individuals involved had complied with law enforcement orders, they would still be alive.

Homan made these remarks to journalists outside the White House, as reported by various U.S. media outlets, including The National Desk, which published the full exchange on video. He addressed criticisms of a past operation called Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota, acknowledging coordination and targeting issues but disputing the extent of alleged errors.

"Not all the mistakes they claimed happened. Many of them were not mistakes," Homan said. He admitted the operation was not perfect, citing multiple chains of command and problems with target selection. He insisted that any disagreements with authorities should be resolved through legal channels, not during an intervention.

"It all comes down to one simple fact: these people did not comply with the orders of the authorities," Homan asserted. This statement reflects his defense, though investigations into the shootings are ongoing, and some testimonies contradict the official account, particularly in the Houston case. "If you don't like what they did to you, go to court. Sue them. Call the ACLU. Do whatever you want," he added.

Homan's comments come amid controversy over several deaths during immigration-related operations. One case involves Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a Colombian man with work authorization, who was fatally shot by an ICE officer during an attempted vehicle stop in Biddeford, Maine. Another case is Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father of three in Houston, whose death during an operation has led to questions from family and witnesses about the official narrative.
