Argentine goalkeeper Werner renews with Elche, loaned to Rosario Central

Argentine goalkeeper Axel Werner has committed his future to Spanish club Elche, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2028. As part of the agreement, Werner will embark on a new loan spell with Rosario Central for the upcoming season, returning to Argentine football.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper joined Elche during the 2021-22 season but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. He has made only two official appearances for the club and has never completed a full season with Elche, spending most of his time out on loan.

Werner's career has seen him loaned to several Argentine teams in recent seasons, including Arsenal, Rosario Central for two separate stints, and Aldosivi. This latest move to Rosario Central marks his return to a club where he has previously played.

The contract renewal and subsequent loan indicate Elche's long-term planning for the goalkeeper position while allowing Werner to gain more consistent playing time elsewhere in his native Argentina.
