Argentine receiver Mauro Zelayeta signs with Spain's Léleman Conqueridor

The Spanish volleyball club Léleman Conqueridor has secured the signing of Argentine receiver Mauro Zelayeta for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Zelayeta joins from Ciudad Vóley, where he recently clinched the Argentine League title alongside new teammate Jonás Ponzio.

My signing with Conqueridor already dates back a few years, the club wanted me to come and I also wanted to, but for some things it didn't happen. This year I wanted to leave Argentina. I knew Valencia, its professionalism and how well they operate at the club, which for me is paramount. They are very professional in all areas, both the board, the staff, and the squad, that's what sealed my signing.

Zelayeta, 26, brings a decorated history to the Valencia-based club, having been named the best outside attacker at the Pan American Games in both 2021 and 2023. He also earned the same distinction in the Argentine League for the 2024/2025 season. He previously played in Spain, facing Conqueridor during his time with Pamesa Teruel.

The Argentine League is very competitive, with good players and you feel the passion that Argentines have. That leads to greater competition.

"My signing with Conqueridor has been in the works for a few years," Zelayeta stated. "The club wanted me to come, and I also wanted to, but it didn't happen for various reasons. This year, I was eager to leave Argentina. I knew Valencia, its professionalism, and how well the club operates, which is paramount for me."

I have very good memories of the Superliga, I really liked it when I was in Spain. It is very competitive, where even the last team can beat the first and that speaks to the great level of competition.

He highlighted the competitive nature of the Argentine League, noting the passion of its players. Regarding his new team, Zelayeta believes he can contribute significantly through his reception, attack, and serve. He anticipates a challenging but rewarding season, with the team aiming for at least the Superliga semifinals and qualification for the Copa del Rey. "We always prepare for the best, to reach the final and be among the top," he added. "I think we are aiming for that."

I think I can contribute my game in reception, attack, and also in serve. This year we are a great team, where anyone can play, but it will be very hard-fought. In the end, that's good because external competition makes the team as a whole play much better.
