"Aritmijos" Festival Engulfs Merkinė: Artists Revel in Unexpected Spaces

The town of Merkinė has once again been transformed by the "Aritmijos" festival, which has turned the usually quiet, hilly landscape into a vibrant center for contemporary art. For six consecutive years, the festival has taken over the first weekend of August, making the small town a capital for modern art and a hub for innovative ideas.

Artists participating in the interdisciplinary arts festival have utilized unconventional spaces throughout Merkinė to showcase their creations. This approach allows art to permeate the town, engaging residents and visitors in unexpected ways.

Algimantas Rokas Černiauskas, the curator of the festival, described Merkinė as erupting like a volcano once a year. He emphasized that the event turns the town into a dynamic space where artistic expression flourishes, highlighting the festival's role in bringing contemporary art to a broader audience in a unique setting.
