Armed Attack on Footballers in Irapuato Leaves Four Dead, Three Injured

A violent attack following an amateur football match in Irapuato, Mexico, has resulted in the deaths of four young players and left three others seriously injured. The incident occurred around 9:15 PM on August 19, 2026, in the community of Ejido de Malvas, as the athletes were leaving the field on their motorcycles.

According to the State Attorney General's Office, armed groups attacked the footballers at two separate locations. The initial assault on Principal street resulted in three deaths and one injury. Later, on the Querétaro-Irapuato highway near the Malvas vehicular bridge, another person was killed, and two more were wounded.

Two of the deceased have been identified as José and Eduardo. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Law enforcement, including the National Guard and criminal investigation agents, responded to the scene to secure the area, collect ballistic evidence, and process the crime scene.

The victims had traveled from the community of El Carrizal to Malvas to participate in the football game. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation by the authorities.
