Armed personnel have surrounded Osun Speaker’s residence - Adeleke camp

The Adeleke Campaign Council has raised alarm over the alleged deployment of armed security personnel to the residence of Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun on Saturday, the day of the state's governorship election. The council claims that over 10 black Hilux vehicles arrived and surrounded the Speaker's home, effectively sealing it off and preventing anyone inside from leaving.

We have received reports that the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has been surrounded by armed security personnel who reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles.

In a statement issued by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council expressed its inability to independently verify the purpose of the security deployment, questioning whether it was for protection or other official duties. They have called upon relevant security authorities to provide an immediate explanation for the reported actions and the restriction of movement.

We have also been informed that the residence has effectively been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises.

Attempts by the campaign council to reach the Commissioner of Police for election security in Osun State and the Deputy Inspector-General overseeing the election proved unsuccessful. Similarly, calls to the Police Situation Room went unanswered, with the provided telephone number reportedly switched off. The council emphasized the need for security operations to inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process, urging agencies to conduct themselves in a manner that avoids fear and intimidation among residents on election day.
