Armed robbery at Gucci store on Mexico City's luxury Masaryk avenue

A robbery at a Gucci store on Presidente Masaryk avenue, a renowned luxury shopping destination in Mexico City's Polanco neighborhood, has put the upscale street back in the spotlight. The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 27, when two men entered the Gucci boutique, posing as customers. After examining several items, they brandished a firearm, threatened the staff, and made off with valuable merchandise. The suspects escaped on a motorcycle, accompanied by a third individual, complicating immediate identification as the vehicle lacked license plates. Authorities are now investigating the case. Presidente Masaryk avenue is celebrated as Mexico's leading luxury corridor, characterized by wide, tree-lined sidewalks, pedestrian areas, and a concentration of international high-end brands, including Cartier, Tesla, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana. The avenue's history dates back to the early 1920s, evolving from the expansion of Paseo de la Reforma. It was later named Presidente Masaryk in honor of Tomás Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia, during the government of former President Lázaro Cárdenas. The area's development was also influenced by Polish, German, Lebanese, Spanish, and Jewish communities, contributing to Polanco's commercial and residential growth.
