Violent Day in Culiacán: Three Murdered, Including Stylist Attacked in Barbershop

Culiacán, the capital of Mexico's Sinaloa state, experienced a violent day Tuesday, with three individuals murdered in separate incidents across the city. The violence underscores the persistent security challenges facing the region.

In one of the incidents, a female stylist, identified as Brenda “N,” was fatally shot inside her barbershop on Hilario Medina Avenue in the Esthela Ortiz de Toledo Corro neighborhood. According to reports, an assailant entered the business, and without uttering a word, produced a firearm and shot her before fleeing the scene. Police and military personnel responded to an anonymous tip about the shooting and confirmed the victim had no vital signs upon their arrival.

The violence continued as the body of a man, bound at the hands and feet and wrapped in black plastic, was discovered on the Boulevard Niños Héroes, a major thoroughfare also known as the old malecon. The victim showed signs of gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed the discovery occurred near the offices of the State Electoral Institute, a busy area where it remains unclear how the body was deposited.

In a third incident, the body of another man was found inside a home in the Valle de Agua neighborhood. The victim, identified by neighbors as Jaime “N,” was reportedly from the neighboring state of Durango but had been living in Culiacán for some time. He was found seated in a plastic chair with apparent gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding his death and whether he had family in the area are unknown.
