Army Joins Firefighting Efforts in Deliblatska Peščara

The Serbian army is being mobilized to help combat a significant fire raging in the Deliblatska Peščara, a protected nature reserve. President Aleksandar Vučić described the situation as "quite difficult and complex," necessitating the deployment of military helicopters to aid in the firefighting efforts.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić confirmed that a police helicopter, recently returned from Spain where it assisted in fire suppression, has also been dispatched to the affected area. The fire, which ignited yesterday afternoon, has already engulfed an estimated 500 hectares of forest.

Efforts to control the blaze are being severely hampered by the challenging, inaccessible terrain and high temperatures. The scale of the fire and the difficult conditions underscore the urgency of the situation and the need for all available resources, including military assistance, to bring it under control.
