Army repels ISWAP attack on Borno base, recovers weapons

Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have achieved a decisive victory, repelling a simultaneous attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Borno State. The engagement occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

The Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI has recorded yet another decisive operational success as troops of 162 Amphibious Battalion decisively defeated an attempted ISWAP terrorist attack on their location at Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

Captain Muhammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the North-East Joint Task Force, stated that troops detected the advancing terrorists through sophisticated early warning and surveillance systems. This allowed for the prompt deployment of a combat team to intercept the ISWAP fighters. A heavy exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the decisive defeat of the attackers on one axis.

At about 0200 hours on 15 August 2026, the terrorists launched a simultaneous assault on the location from two fronts. On detecting the advancing terrorists from emplaced early warning and surveillance systems, a combat team was promptly dispatched to interdict the terrorists along one of the axes of advance.

A second group of terrorists attempted to bypass the ambush and infiltrate the camp but were met with superior firepower and were also defeated. The coordinated and aggressive response forced the insurgents to withdraw in disarray. Following the engagement, troops launched a hot pursuit and thoroughly exploited the contact and withdrawal areas.

In a clear demonstration of tactical proficiency and combat dominance, the troops neutralised several terrorists and recovered a substantial quantity of equipment comprising AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines.

This included AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with bombs and chargers, and a camcorder. Significantly, he emphasized that there were no casualties on the Nigerian Army side. Surveillance footage reportedly showed terrorists dragging away their dead comrades. The success was attributed to the high readiness, aggressive posture, and operational effectiveness of the troops, supported by the military high command.
