Army rescues 350 people trapped in Nepal hydropower tunnel

The Nepali Army has successfully rescued 350 individuals who were trapped inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project in Rasuwa. The operation followed the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood, which has caused significant destruction and left numerous people stranded in various locations.

Reports of hundreds of people being trapped inside the tunnel had raised widespread concern, especially as rescue teams faced challenging conditions in the flood-affected region. The Prime Minister’s Secretariat confirmed that the Army executed the difficult rescue operation, bringing 350 people to safety.

Despite this success, the Nepali Army estimates that more than 100 people remain trapped within the Upper Trishuli tunnel. Rescue efforts are actively continuing to reach those still inside. On Thursday alone, the Army reported rescuing a total of 883 local residents and workers from flood-affected areas in Rasuwa. Rescue teams are utilizing helicopters and other resources to access individuals cut off by the disaster.
