Arsenal cruises past Girona 4-1 in Trofeu Costa Brava

Arsenal secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over Girona in the 49th edition of the Trofeu Costa Brava, held at the Estadi Montilivi. The match saw the Premier League champions face off against a Girona side recently relegated to the Spanish Second Division.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 16th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Max Dowman. Christos Tziolis, a new signing for Mikel Arteta's squad, extended Arsenal's lead around the half-hour mark after beating his marker. Arsenal's dominance was evident as Girona struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities.

However, Girona managed to pull a goal back early in the second half. Arnau Martínez scored with a header from a corner kick, expertly delivered by Minsu Kim, briefly bringing the home team back into contention. This goal, scored by Quique Álvarez's squad, seemed to reignite their hopes.

Arsenal quickly extinguished any doubts about the result with two goals in quick succession. Max Dowman fired a powerful and well-placed shot from the edge of the box past Paulo Gazzaniga. Shortly after, Gabriel Jesus capitalized on a loose ball near the penalty spot, finding the net with the Girona defense in disarray. Despite chances for Girona's Vladyslav Vanat, Abel Ruiz, and Oleksandr Pyshchur, no further goals were scored.
