Ex-Sevilla Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland Signs for German Club RB Leipzig

Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has secured a two-year deal with German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, returning to the club where he previously played. Nyland, 35, became a free agent after his contract with Spanish club Sevilla concluded on June 30, following three seasons with the Andalusian team.

During his time at Sevilla, Nyland's first-team opportunities were limited, featuring in only seven official matches last season. However, his performances as the starting goalkeeper for the Norwegian national team, particularly his strong showing in the World Cup knockout stages, caught the attention of RB Leipzig.

Nyland's career began in Norway with Hodd in 2011, followed by a move to Molde in 2013. He then ventured abroad in 2015 to play for German club Ingolstadt 04 for three seasons. His journey continued to England, where he played for Aston Villa, Norwich, Bournemouth, and Reading before his initial stint at RB Leipzig in the 2022-23 season, during which he won the German Cup.

He initially joined Sevilla in August 2023 as a replacement for Yassine Bono. Nyland was a regular starter in his first two seasons with Sevilla, playing 28 and 31 official games respectively. However, last season, Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos took over the starting position, relegating Nyland to the bench.
