Arsenal signs Bruno Guimaraes for 87 million euros

Arsenal has secured the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a reported fee of 75 million pounds (87 million euros). The transfer, announced on Saturday, brings a significant player to the Emirates Stadium.

Guimaraes, 28, joined Newcastle in 2022 and became a key figure in their successes, including two Champions League qualifications and a League Cup win in 2025. However, his departure signals a shift for the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) backing the club. A slowdown in investment has led to the exit of several key players and the recent resignation of manager Eddie Howe.

The sale of Guimaraes, along with previous departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, signifies the end of a cycle fueled by Saudi capital at Newcastle. "It is a complicated transfer for me because Newcastle means a lot, but I wanted to experience something new in my life and I am ready for a new challenge," the Brazilian international stated.

Guimaraes is Arsenal's fourth summer acquisition, following Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapié, and Illan Meslier. The Gunners have invested heavily, spending over 160 million euros, while also generating around 50 million euros from player sales. Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly still seeking a left winger to further strengthen the squad.
