Arson isolates 180 families in Pedro Juan Caballero after wooden bridge burned

More than 180 families in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, are now completely isolated after an essential wooden bridge was deliberately set ablaze. The destruction of the bridge, connecting the San Rafael settlement to the urban center, occurred early Thursday morning. This act of arson has exacerbated the already precarious situation for residents who have endured the bridge's deplorable state for over two years.

Residents, led by local commission president Edison Villalba, gathered at the bridge's edge, pleading for immediate intervention from authorities. They expressed frustration with unfulfilled political promises and highlighted the daily dangers they face navigating the failing structure. The community is demanding a swift and permanent solution to their isolation.

A municipal councilor, Jorge Medina, met with the affected residents and pledged to formally request the construction of a new bridge during the next Municipal Board session. He promised to seek municipal intervention to resolve the long-standing problem that has severely impacted the lives of the families in the San Rafael settlement.
