Aru civil society urges Ituri governor to act on South Sudan armed incursions

Civil society representatives in Aru territory, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Ituri province, have formally appealed to the provincial governor concerning persistent armed incursions originating from South Sudan. The repeated cross-border intrusions have heightened anxieties among communities living along the frontier.

These security concerns are compounded by a noted increase in criminal activity within the region's main commercial hubs. Local leaders and civil society members are raising alarms about the escalating threat, which they fear jeopardizes both the safety of residents and the stability of economic life.

In a formal correspondence addressed to the Ituri governor, a copy of which was obtained by Radio Okapi, the signatories are urgently requesting the implementation of decisive measures. Their appeal emphasizes the need to restore security for the populace and safeguard the region's economic activities from further disruption.
