China is reportedly constructing a colossal logistics support ship, estimated to be around 270 meters long and 37 meters wide. This vessel, if completed as anticipated, could become the largest military logistics ship globally, significantly bolstering China's naval capacity for extended operations far from its shores.

The construction is taking place at the COMEC shipyard on Longxue Island, near Guangzhou. Satellite imagery from Planet Labs, analyzed by defense media The War Zone, indicates significant progress on the ship's hull, superstructure, and flight deck since at least February 2026. The dimensions suggest it surpasses the PLA Navy's current Type 901 fast combat support ships and even the U.S. Navy's John Lewis-class replenishment oilers.

While official details from China regarding the ship's name, class, capacity, and specific role remain undisclosed, its design and features observed via satellite imagery strongly suggest its function as a naval logistics vessel. This development occurs as China continues to expand its fleet, widening the gap with the United States, which faces delays and cost overruns in its shipbuilding programs.
