Asia-Pacific Long-Term Care Conference in Taipei Focuses on Community Care and Dementia Coexistence

Taipei is hosting the "Linkage ~ 2026 Asia-Pacific Long-Term Care Development Strategy International Conference," a two-day event focused on enhancing community care, cross-sector collaboration, and fostering coexistence with dementia. Organized by the Taipei City Government's Department of Social Welfare, the Taiwan Home Care Services Strategy Alliance, and Taipei Medical University, the conference aims to learn from international experiences and develop effective strategies for an aging society.

Aging care starts from home services, community care, and community activity centers. These are the key points currently promoted by the Taipei City Government. We hope that through the conference, all sectors in Taiwan can also learn from the experiences of various countries.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Li Tai-hsing highlighted the city's commitment to aging care, emphasizing home services, community care, and community activity centers as key priorities. He expressed hope that the conference would provide valuable insights from global experts, particularly from Japan, France, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, to inform Taiwan's approach.

The conference is structured around four main themes: "Linkage Living Freely," "Dynamic Coexistence," "Linking Care," and "Accompanying Dementia." It features 4 international keynote speakers and 17 prominent Taiwanese speakers, engaging in specialized lectures, industry-government-academia dialogues, and workshops. The event serves as a crucial platform for dialogue in the long-term care sector, building on the success of previous conferences organized by the Taiwan Home Care Services Strategy Alliance since 2013.

Taiwan has already entered a super-aged society. The care and concern for the elderly will be a focus in the future. This year's theme is 'Linkage,' mainly referring to cross-field, cross-generation, and cross-professional collaboration.

Taipei City is actively promoting smart care and digital empowerment, strengthening community care centers, and expanding social welfare facilities. The city is also enhancing local care and lifelong learning services. Furthermore, it is fostering cross-departmental collaboration with the medical and social safety nets to create a robust protective mechanism and an environment that supports dementia coexistence, ensuring continuous, person-centered care.
