Chimei Medical System Partners with Biotech Firm for Elderly Home Care Initiative

The Chimei Medical System is partnering with Shengzhan Biotechnology to address the growing needs of Taiwan's super-aged society through a charitable donation of probiotics. This initiative will provide 3,000 cans of probiotics to more than 300 elderly individuals receiving home care, aiming to improve their gastrointestinal health and overall quality of life.

Many elderly patients, often confined to their homes due to age, chronic illnesses, or long-term bed rest, suffer from constipation and other bowel movement difficulties. These issues can significantly impact their well-being. Recognizing this, the Chimei medical team and Shengzhan Biotechnology have joined forces to offer these probiotic products, which are not covered by national health insurance, to those who need them most.

As Taiwan's aging ratio continues to rise, elderly care has become an important issue in healthcare. In addition to providing high-quality medical services, it is also necessary to integrate resources from all sectors of society to build a comprehensive care support system.

The donated probiotics will be distributed across Chimei Medical System's three major campuses, Yongkang, Liuying, and Jiali, supporting their home medical care, home nursing, and hospice home care services. The beneficiaries include individuals with gastrointestinal health needs or those from disadvantaged families who are long-term bedridden. The medical teams will assess individual needs during home visits, providing integrated care that combines medical, nursing, and interdisciplinary resources.

Chimei Medical System President Lin Horng-Rong emphasized the importance of social resources in building a comprehensive care support system for the aging population. He expressed gratitude to Shengzhan Biotechnology for their commitment to elderly health and social welfare, which allows the medical system to extend its services from hospitals into the community. Shengzhan Biotechnology Chairman Chen Wei-Ren added that the donation aims to provide essential health resources to home-bound elders and to honor the frontline healthcare workers serving the community.
