ASSE continues to grow but without more resources: union warns of impact on user care

Uruguay's public health system, ASSE, is experiencing growth in demand and coverage but is not receiving corresponding budget increases, warns the Federation of Public Health Workers (FFSP). The union expressed deep concern over the government's proposed budget, stating it fails to address worker demands or the essential needs of public healthcare.

The FFSP highlighted that ASSE is expanding its services and responsibilities nationwide while operating without adequate budgetary support. The union's analysis of the government's budget proposal indicates that it primarily involves internal cost redistribution, rather than allocating new funds to strengthen ASSE's infrastructure and ensure quality care for patients.

Furthermore, the FFSP criticized the proposal for neglecting historical labor rights, specifically mentioning the loss of state insurance coverage for work-related accidents, a benefit they claim was reduced under the previous government. The union is also demanding strict compliance with commitments made in last year's collective agreement, which include advancing the process of insourcing services, developing career paths for staff, and upholding labor agreements.

The federation also voiced its support for the Uruguayan Health Federation's (FUS) stance on healthcare co-payments.
