Astros star José Altuve to undergo further medical evaluations for foot injury

Houston Astros star José Altuve is set for further medical evaluations after being hit by a pitch on his left foot. While initial X-rays showed no fracture, Altuve experienced worsening pain and left Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. "I wanted to go out and play defense to see if it got better, but it was getting worse," Altuve told MLB.com. "I didn't want to do anything stupid, so we decided to leave the game." Manager Joe Espada indicated that Altuve would visit team doctors for more assessments and potentially imaging tests upon the team's return to Houston. "He feels much better than yesterday, but he is still quite sore," Espada said. Altuve, 36, has a .240/.304/.391 slash line this season with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. He recently surpassed Joe Gordon and Ian Kinsler for eighth place on the all-time home run list for second basemen with 247 career homers. The Astros, leading the American League West, need their star player healthy to maintain their position.
