Venezuela's U-17 futsal team defeats Colombia, stays unbeaten

Venezuela’s U-17 futsal team secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Colombia on August 12, maintaining their undefeated streak in the South American Championship. The win, their second in the group stage, places them in a strong position to advance.

Ángel Bastidas continued his scoring form, netting his fourth goal of the tournament to open the scoring against Colombia. Venezuela’s defense held firm, preserving their first clean sheet of the group stage. Bastidas' second goal doubled their lead, sealing the win and eliminating Colombia from contention.

The team’s journey began with a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Uruguay, where goals from Luciano Sánchez and Steffano Berreta were matched by the hosts. Bastidas scored to give Venezuela the lead, but Uruguay equalized late.

In their second match, Venezuela secured a 3-2 win against Chile. Augusto Montaño and Bastidas scored in the first half, and Bastidas added another goal to secure the victory despite Chile’s efforts.

With seven points, Venezuela currently leads Group A. Their final group stage match is against host nation Paraguay, who are second in the group with four points. A victory or draw against Paraguay would secure Venezuela's place in the next phase of the tournament.
