Asunción Celebrates 489 Years with Music, Festivals, and Fairs

Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, is marking its 489th anniversary with a vibrant weekend of celebrations. The festivities began Friday evening with the free ASU 489 festival in Plaza de Armas, drawing a large crowd eager to enjoy music and entertainment.

The festival featured performances by local artists and DJs, setting a festive tone for the anniversary. Organized by the Office of the First Lady, the Municipality of Asunción, and the Association of the Historic City Center of Asunción (Amcha), the event aimed to invigorate the historic center and offer free entertainment.

Saturday's agenda promises a packed schedule for all ages, including parades, food fairs, and more musical performances. Most of these activities are also free, encouraging families and visitors to participate throughout the city.

The weekend's celebrations will conclude with the Asu Fest, a major concert held on the Costanera, showcasing renowned national artists. This extensive program aims to make Asunción's 489th anniversary a memorable city-wide festival, blending music, culture, gastronomy, and outdoor activities.
