Asunción's green space turned into illegal parking lot near Congress

A green space in Asunción's Costanera, intended for recreation and enjoyment, has been transformed into an open-air parking lot. Dozens of vehicles, reportedly belonging to National Congress officials, are occupying the area near Plaza España and the EcoPark, damaging the grass and trees.

The situation violates Municipal Ordinance 161/2024, which protects the area. Adding to the illegality, individuals appear to be charging for parking and "guarding" vehicles in these unauthorized spots.

We have requested the urgent measure to evict the people who are using that place. I have information that the order will be issued this week.

Rubén Samudio, director of the Costanera Franja, confirmed the irregularities and announced that the municipality is taking action. An urgent measure for the eviction of those using the space is expected this week. The Municipal Police and surveillance teams will be responsible for removing the vehicles.

Samudio clarified that the process began earlier and required technical analysis to ensure the land legally belongs to the Costanera and not the Congress. The space, meant for leisure, sports, and enjoying nature, is now a damaged parking lot.

We had to follow up with the Cadastre Directorate to verify and be 100% sure that the property legally belongs to the Costanera and not to Congress.
