At least seven dead in paramilitary drone attack on Sudan market

A drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a market in Sudan's North Darfur state has resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and injured ten others. The incident occurred in the town of Karnoi, a region that has seen repeated aerial assaults.

The Resistance Committees Coordination in the region reported that the weekly market in Karnoi, located northwest of Al Fasher, was the target. The attack not only caused civilian casualties, including women, but also led to the destruction of several shops and the loss of merchandise. This market serves as a vital gathering point for hundreds of residents from surrounding villages to purchase essential goods.

This latest strike marks the third incident of its kind in Karnoi during June. A similar drone attack at the end of May killed five people and injured four. Earlier in the month, on May 11, commercial vehicles in the town were hit in another drone attack, causing civilian injuries and destroying the vehicles.

Karnoi, along with Ambro and Al Tina, is identified as one of the last strongholds controlled by the Sudanese Army and its allies in the Darfur region, following the RSF's capture of most other towns. Meanwhile, the conflict between the Sudanese Army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, continues to devastate large parts of the country, with both sides frequently employing drones against military and civilian targets.
