Atakum schools prepare for the new academic year

Atakum Municipality is racing to finish cleaning every school in the district before students return for the new academic year on Sept. 14.

Teams from the Directorate of Cleaning Services are collecting rubbish, washing schoolyards with pressurized water and cleaning shared-use areas at primary, middle and high schools. Work has already been completed at several schools, including Hüseyin Avni Asal Primary School, Milli Eğitim Vakfı Primary School and Şehit Onbaşı Yücel Ünsal Primary School.

The municipality says it plans to complete the remaining work across Atakum before the first bell rings. Mayor Serhat Türkel said the effort would help students study in healthier and more hygienic surroundings.

“We are carrying out intensive cleaning work at schools throughout Atakum so that our children can receive their education in more hygienic and healthy environments in the new term,” Türkel said. “We will have completed our work before our students begin classes.”
