Athens police investigate body found in suitcase

An investigation into a macabre discovery in Athens has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the Hellenic Police. A woman's body, found in an advanced state of decomposition inside a suitcase within an abandoned building on Evpidoon Street in Kypseli, has prompted a full-scale inquiry.

The identity of the petite woman remains unknown. A forensic examination, scheduled for Monday, is expected to provide crucial answers regarding the time and mechanism of her death. Forensic pathologist Giorgos Dilerias will conduct the autopsy, aiming to clarify the circumstances under which she lost her life.

The location where the body was found is cluttered with objects and is known to be frequented by homeless individuals for overnight stays. Homicide investigators are meticulously searching the area for any evidence that could lead to the identification of a perpetrator. They are also reviewing video footage from security cameras in nearby homes and businesses to determine who may have left the suitcase.

The investigation is not limited to recent events but extends to previous days to establish a precise timeline of death, pending the forensic report. Authorities are also looking into the disappearance of Yu Ting, a 50-year-old Chinese translator who has been missing since May 20 in Artemida. Her husband has been informed of the discovery, and authorities have collected DNA samples from her personal belongings for comparison.

Investigators are collecting genetic material from Yu Ting's personal items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, to conduct DNA testing. This will help determine if the body found in the suitcase belongs to her or another woman. The results of these tests, along with the forensic examination, are expected to shed light on this disturbing case.
