Athletics Delivers Another Asian Gold for Vietnam

Vietnam's athletic prowess continues to shine on the continental stage, with Phạm Văn Nghĩa capturing a gold medal in the men's long jump at the 2026 Asian Beach Games held in Sanya, China. This remarkable achievement marks Vietnam's second gold medal in athletics at the event and its second overall, underscoring the nation's growing strength in beach sports.

Nghĩa's winning leap of 7.44 meters edged out competitors from China and Sri Lanka, securing a decisive victory. His triumph echoes the success of his compatriot, Hà Thị Thúy Hằng, who clinched the women's long jump gold medal just a day prior. This back-to-back success in the long jump events demonstrates the dedication and talent of Vietnamese track and field athletes.

Beyond athletics, the Vietnamese delegation has also showcased its competitive spirit in other disciplines. The dragon boat racing team secured a bronze medal in the women's 200m event, while swimmer Võ Thị Mỹ Tiên added another bronze to the tally in the 5km open water swimming. As of April 25th, the Vietnamese contingent has amassed a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The team, comprising 90 members, is competing across 26 events in 8 sports, including beach athletics, wrestling, handball, jujitsu, traditional boat racing, swimming, sailing, and beach teqball, reflecting a broad engagement in the diverse offerings of the Asian Beach Games.
