Atlanta woman sentenced to 16 years for $9.4 million Amazon fraud scheme

A 40-year-old woman from Atlanta has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for her participation in a sophisticated fraud scheme that cost Amazon approximately $9.4 million in just a few months. Brittany Hudson was convicted for her role alongside Kayricka Wortham, a former Amazon operations manager.

According to federal prosecutors in Georgia, Hudson and Wortham orchestrated the scheme between January and June 2022. Wortham, leveraging her position, approved payments to fictitious vendors and submitted falsified invoices for goods and services that were never provided. These payments were directed to bank accounts controlled by Hudson, Wortham, and other accomplices.

The illicit funds were quickly channeled into extravagant purchases. These included a nearly $1 million home in Smyrna, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a 2021 Dodge Durango, a 2022 Tesla Model X, a 2018 Porsche Panamera, and a Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle. Hudson also reportedly falsified the signature of a federal judge during the investigation.

In March, a jury found Hudson guilty of multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, money laundering, and forging a federal judge's signature. Following the guilty verdict, she was sentenced on August 26 to 16 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. She has also been ordered to pay nearly $9.5 million in restitution. Wortham received the same 16-year sentence in 2023 for her part in the fraud.
