Attack: Ekiti approves military base for border community

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed the establishment of an additional military formation in the Eda Oniyo axis, located in the Ilejemeje Local Government Area. This move aims to bolster security, protect lives and property, and prevent future security breaches in the border community.

The governor also ordered the speedy completion of the divisional police station currently under construction in Eda Oniyo, emphasizing its critical role in strengthening the community's security architecture. Oyebanji conveyed these directives in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Eda Oniyo community, led by Oba Julius Awolola, the Eleda of Eda Oniyo.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration's commitment to safeguarding every part of the state, assuring that no community would be left vulnerable to criminal elements. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the creation of state police, describing it as a bold and timely initiative to address Nigeria's security challenges.

The governor acknowledged that Eda Oniyo has experienced slow development over the years, partly due to a prolonged legal dispute over its status as a local government headquarters. He assured the community that the state government would focus on transforming it to befitting its status. Oyebanji noted that a combined team of soldiers, police, and other security outfits regularly patrols the border town to deter criminals from neighboring states.

Representing the traditional ruler, Dr. Rufus Ojo, President of the Eda Oniyo Progressives Union, conveyed the community's deep appreciation for the governor's interventions during a recent security ordeal. Ojo commended Oyebanji's handling of security challenges and provision of medical care for rescued victims. He appealed for the utilization of the area's vast land for agricultural projects, believing it would enhance security and improve the socio-economic well-being of residents.
