Police inspector, NAF corporal feared killed in Plateau ambush

A joint security patrol in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, was ambushed early Tuesday, resulting in the reported deaths of a police inspector and an Air Force corporal. The attackers allegedly made off with the service weapons of the deceased security personnel.

Security forces discovered the bodies of the security operatives, one Inspector of the Nigeria Police Force and one Lance Corporal of the Nigerian Air Force. Their service weapons had been taken by the attackers.

The incident occurred around 5:00 AM along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida road, where four security personnel had set up a snap roadblock. Community sources confirmed that two personnel failed to return to their posts, prompting an immediate search operation. Security forces later discovered the bodies of the inspector and the corporal, noting their weapons were missing.

Preliminary findings indicated that the ambush occurred near an area previously occupied by Fulani herders, who had fled with their cattle before reinforcements arrived. The attack site was also close to a native settlement.
