Suspected herders kill four in fresh Benue attack

At least four people were killed in a fresh attack by suspected armed herders on the Abaushwa community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. The incident occurred on Monday night, with residents reporting that the attackers invaded the community under the cover of darkness.

They came and attacked the community without any provocation, killing people in their sleep. They forced open the doors of their victims and murdered them inside their houses.

Local sources described the attackers forcing open doors and killing victims as they slept. One resident, Atoundo, stated there was no provocation for the attack. Initially, three people were reported dead, but a fourth victim died after sustaining injuries and being taken to the General Hospital in Gbajimba.

It was an unprovoked attack by armed herdsmen. They came at about midnight and launched a heavy assault on the community. They killed four people and left several others injured. Those wounded have been taken to the General Hospital in Gbajimba.

Frank Kyungun, a former Executive Secretary of the Benue State Teaching Service Board who hails from the community, condemned the attack as unprovoked. He noted that the wounded were receiving medical attention. The Chairman of Guma LGA, Morris Orwough, also condemned the violence and confirmed that security personnel had been deployed to Abaushwa to restore peace and prevent further attacks. The state police command confirmed the attack and the death toll, stating that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
