Aubameyang: 'I will score goals and provide many assists'

Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has arrived at Deportivo with a clear objective: to score goals and deliver assists as the Galician club makes its return to Spain's First Division for the 2026-27 season after an eight-year hiatus.

During his presentation as a new Deportivo player, Aubameyang conveyed his enthusiasm for the move. "When the proposal came, I immediately spoke with my family and agents. I told them to listen to what they had to say. I've known Deportivo since I was little, when they played in the Champions League. Seeing them back in the First Division is important, and helping them return is a significant point for me," he stated.

While he declined to set a specific goal target for his return to the Spanish league, where he previously played for FC Barcelona in 2022, Aubameyang is confident in his abilities. "The goals will come. I don't know the number, but hopefully, many. I will score goals, provide many assists. I come with great desire. Over the years I have grown, now I think I can read the game a little more," he affirmed.

The veteran forward also emphasized his desire to embrace a leadership role, a position he believes he has held in previous clubs like Olympique Marseille and with the Gabonese national team. "I really like that role of being a leader, it's not something new for me because I think I already did it in Marseille. Also in other teams. With the Gabon national team, I've also had to take it on because there are many young players. I've come to help the team, also the young players," he explained.

Aubameyang also mentioned positive feedback from teammate Charlie Patiño, who previously played with him at Arsenal, regarding the city and the club. He expressed eagerness to play at Riazor stadium and noted the city's passion for football. He also shared his positive impressions of Deportivo's young attacking talent, including Bil, Zaka, Jensen, and others, looking forward to integrating with them.
