Audi workers protest against planned factory closure

Thousands of workers at the Audi automotive plant in Neckarsulm, Germany, staged a protest today against looming factory closures and the potential loss of tens of thousands of jobs. The demonstrations highlight the deep anxiety among employees regarding their future employment.

Melih Cevlik, an Audi worker present at the Neckarsulm protest, told Reuters, "We fear factory closures and threats to our future." He added that employees are seeking explanations from management because "they are worried they will come to work. Many families are also concerned."

Volkswagen, Audi's parent company, has announced plans to shut down several factories in the coming years. Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen, identified Neckarsulm as one of four German plants that could be closed. This announcement comes as Audi faces declining sales in the crucial Chinese market, where it is increasingly being outpaced by domestic Chinese automakers.
