Augusto Cury Failed to Declare Companies in the United States and Brazil to Electoral Court

Presidential candidate Augusto Cury failed to include stakes in five companies in his declaration of assets to Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court, despite reporting wealth of 242.2 million reais.

The omitted holdings involve three companies based in Florida and two in Brazil. The U.S. companies are Cury Academia Comportamental, Contemplare Investments and Free Mind Publish. In Brazil, Cury did not declare his stakes in Contemplare and Academia de Pensar e Brincar, both based in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo state.

Cury’s campaign said the omitted holdings were “insignificant” in relation to his assets, which it said were built “lawfully.” His team also said that “any inconsistencies” would be corrected. No request for an amended declaration had been filed by Sunday morning.

The candidate reported stakes in seven companies to the electoral court. According to the report, five companies in which he is a partner were left out. The disclosure was first made by Folha de S.Paulo and confirmed by Estadão.

Cury, a self-help author, ranked third in a Quaest poll released on Wednesday, Sept. 2. He received 10% of voting intentions in both scenarios tested, an eight-point increase from the previous poll. He nevertheless remained behind Lula, of the Workers’ Party, and Flávio Bolsonaro, of the Liberal Party, who were described as polarising the race.

His campaign has also received support on social media from micro-influencers who generally do not post about politics, as well as professionals linked to coach Pablo Marçal, another presidential candidate.
