AUR urges Romania’s Constitutional Court to urgently publish decisions on public television and radio boards

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians, or AUR, is pressing Romania’s Constitutional Court to publish decisions that could invalidate parliamentary appointments to the governing boards of public television and radio.

AUR parliamentary groups in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate sent a request to Constitutional Court President Elena-Simina Tănăsescu. They called for the immediate completion, certification and transmission for publication in Part I of the Official Gazette of Romania.

The party said the court ruled on April 29, 2026, after accepting, by a majority vote, challenges filed by AUR against parliamentary resolutions appointing members of the boards of the Romanian Television Society and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society. AUR said the court found both resolutions unconstitutional regarding the candidates put forward by the joint parliamentary groups of the two chambers.

According to the party, the court’s communications indicated that eight seats allocated to parliamentary groups on the boards should have gone to candidates proposed according to the political composition of Parliament and the relative strength of its parliamentary groups. AUR argued that because the decisions have not been published, the effects of resolutions already found unconstitutional continue.

The party said 127 calendar days had passed since the rulings. It cited a legal deadline of no more than 30 days for drafting court decisions, saying the deadline expired on May 29 and had been exceeded by 97 days.
