Australia Announce Playing XI for First Test Against Bangladesh

Australia has finalized its playing XI for the first Test match against Bangladesh, opting to include veteran fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in the lineup. This decision sees Hazlewood preferred over Scott Boland, meaning Australia will reunite its formidable pace trio of captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Hazlewood. The announcement was made by Cummins on the eve of the Test, marking Hazlewood's return to the side after an eight-month absence.

Adding further strength to the squad, spinner Nathan Lyon also makes his return to the XI. Lyon had been sidelined for the latter part of the recent Ashes series due to a hamstring injury. All-rounder Cameron Green has secured his place in the team, alongside fellow all-rounder Beau Webster. This selection indicates Australia's strategy to continue with two pace-bowling all-rounders in their lineup for the upcoming matches.

Scott Boland, who played a crucial role in all five Ashes Tests last summer, stepping in when Cummins, Hazlewood, and Lyon were unavailable for significant periods, will miss out on this Test. Despite this omission, Boland is expected to remain a key player in Australia's plans, especially considering the team's busy schedule which could involve up to 21 Test matches over the next 12 months.

The first Test is scheduled to take place from August 13 to 17 at Marrara Stadium in Darwin. This will be followed by the second Test, from August 22 to 26, at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay. This two-match series forms part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle. Currently, Australia holds the second position in the championship's points table, while Bangladesh is placed fourth.
