Autobiography Based on Scientific Theory Discussed at UI

An autobiography that merges personal life stories with academic theories was recently examined at Universitas Indonesia, highlighting a growing trend in the genre. The book, "Penemu Biofar SS: Anak Desa dari Rp70 Ribu Mendunia" (Discoverer of Biofar SS: A Village Child Who Went Global from Rp70 Thousand), authored by Muhammad Ja’far Hasibuan, a Master's student in Public Health Nutrition at Universitas Sumatera Utara, was the focus of a seminar and book review.

The event, held at the Faculty of Public Health at Universitas Indonesia, drew approximately 500 in-person attendees and 1,500 online participants. It featured prominent academics, government officials, and representatives from state institutions. Among the speakers were Adang Bachtiar, a Professor at FKM UI; Rosleny Marliani, Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Psychology at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung; Zulhaida Lubis, a Professor at FKM USU; Hendro Wicaksono, Acting Head of the Youth Mobility Services at the Ministry of Youth and Sports; and Arief Wicaksono, a representative from the National Library.

The seminar was officially opened by a representative of the Indonesian National Police Chief, Commissioner General Pol. R.Z. Panca Putra Simanjuntak, with remarks read by Inspector General Pol. Andry Wibowo. In his opening speech, the representative lauded the book, stating, "The work shows that limitations are not barriers to producing innovations that benefit society." He added, "I am very proud to be here representing the National Police Chief to officially open this International Scale Book Launch and Review. Muhammad Ja’far Hasibuan's work proves that even a village child has big dreams and extraordinary abilities to make the nation proud."

Hasibuan explained that the book was written to connect personal experiences with scientific knowledge, aiming for broader societal benefit. "All the knowledge I have learned, I have realized in tangible works and innovations so that they can provide the widest possible benefit to society," he stated. During the review session, panelists noted that the book integrates various academic approaches, including social capital theory, resilience, the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), strategic management, and the RACI method. Professor Adang Bachtiar commented that this approach transforms autobiography into a valuable tool for academic discussion, not just a personal narrative. The book, exceeding 400 pages, is supported by approximately 200 scientific references from public health and policy fields.
