Uruguay is set to experience the most severe polar cold wave of the year as winter officially commences on Sunday, June 21. The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) has warned of "rains and very low temperatures" throughout the weekend, with Saturday morning described as "frigid with frost and agrometeorological frosts."

According to the meteorological agency Metsul, a second, more intense cold wave of polar origin is expected to arrive around Monday, June 22. This cold air mass is predicted to cover southern Brazil by Tuesday and Wednesday before gradually weakening. Data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicates that these low temperatures will significantly impact Uruguay, particularly its northern regions.

Meteorologist Mario Bidegain shared forecasts predicting maximum temperatures around 11.5°C to 15°C from June 20 to 24, with a notable drop between Monday and Wednesday, reaching lows of 9°C to 11.5°C. Meteorologist José Serra noted that the end of June could see maximums between 13°C and 15°C, with minimums of 5°C to 6°C. Serra also highlighted that precipitation between June 22 and 27 would be beneficial, as there have been no significant rains since May 9.

Other meteorologists, including Guillermo Ramis and Nubel Cisneros, have also forecast a "very cold week" with polar air invasions causing frosts. Cisneros specifically mentioned "polar cold, with very low wind chills, around 2°C and below 0°C," warning of "very complicated cold" and strong winds from the southwest. Despite the harsh conditions, the cold and potential rainfall are seen as advantageous for rural producers, particularly in combating ticks.
