Awoniyi fired up for Coventry after £9m move

Taiwo Awoniyi has completed a permanent move to Coventry City from Nottingham Forest for a fee reported to be around £9 million. The Nigerian striker finalized his transfer on Monday after bidding farewell to his former teammates at the City Ground. Awoniyi spent four seasons in the Premier League with Forest, where he scored 21 league goals in 90 appearances and 23 goals across all competitions.

His contributions were vital in his first campaign, netting 11 goals to help Forest avoid relegation and reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals. He was also part of the squad that secured seventh place and qualified for European football in the 2024/25 season, establishing himself as a key player. Awoniyi's move also reunites him with Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka, who recently joined Coventry from Brentford.
