B.C. man charged after motorhome driven onto airport runway

A man in Abbotsford, British Columbia, has been arrested and charged after allegedly driving a motorhome onto an active airport runway. Police responded to Abbotsford International Airport on July 25 after receiving reports of the vehicle breaching a perimeter fence.

Airport staff and air traffic controllers took immediate action. In a recording, controllers can be heard warning an aircraft to "pull up and go around immediately" due to the danger on the runway. They also communicated with the vehicle, though the content of that exchange was not detailed.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and arrested the 53-year-old suspect. He faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle and mischief. The investigation is ongoing to determine the man's motives for driving onto the runway.

Airport operations experienced a brief disruption but have since resumed normal activity. No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities are seeking information and dash camera footage from any witnesses.
