Babangida: Alhaji's Passing is a Personal Loss

General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, former Military President of Nigeria, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaji Alhaji, a former Minister of Finance and the Sardauna of Sokoto. Babangida characterized the death as a "personal loss," highlighting his close relationship with the deceased.

In a condolence message to the family, Babangida remembered Alhaji Alhaji as an "accomplished public servant, a diplomat, an elder statesman, and a patriot" who devoted his life to Nigeria's development. He further stated, "To me, this is a personal loss as I have lost a friend, an associate, a confidant, and a brother." Babangida cherished the memories of their relationship, which he said was built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for Nigeria.

He added that the deceased's exemplary leadership skills and selflessness were evident from a young age and were consistently applied throughout his service to the nation.

Alhaji Alhaji, born in 1937, passed away last year and was buried according to Islamic rites. Babangida prayed for strength for Alhaji Alhaji's immediate family, the people of Sokoto State, and all Nigerians to bear the loss, and for Allah to grant him paradise.
