Baby victim of alleged human trafficking in Jambi reunited with mother

An emotional reunion took place at the Jambi Regional Police headquarters as an eight-month-old baby, a victim of suspected human trafficking, was returned to their mother. The baby had been separated from Pemi Sri Rohani, the mother, since July 7, 2026. The Jambi Regional Police facilitated the child's return and have assumed control of the case from the Batang Hari Police.

The case reportedly began when the baby's biological father allegedly sold the child to another party. The infant was subsequently passed between individuals, eventually ending up in the possession of an indigenous community group in Batang Hari Regency. Police and child protection agencies conducted a search, successfully locating the baby unharmed before the reunion with the mother.

Investigators are currently examining the alleged involvement of multiple individuals, including the baby's father, in a trafficking network that led to the separation. The police are working to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify all parties involved in the suspected crime.
