Bacău Ring Road Could Fully Open Saturday as UMB Speeds Up Work

Bacău’s bypass could open fully on Saturday, Sept. 5, after contractor UMB accelerated construction in recent days. The opening was initially scheduled for the following week.

The work focuses on the Bacău Nord interchange and the remaining section of the ring road. Once open, drivers will be able to use the entire bypass in connection with the A7 motorway. The aim is to reduce congestion in Bacău before the new school year begins.

The main connections have been paved, while UMB crews are completing road markings, guardrails and signs. Opening the Bacău Nord interchange would allow traffic from the A7 to continue along the entire bypass toward the Bogdan Vodă area. That would reduce pressure on Calea Bârladului and other roads in the city.

On Aug. 31, the 47.1-kilometer Adjud-Bacău section of the Moldova motorway opened. Drivers can now use 241.62 kilometers of the A7’s planned 319 kilometers. Transport Ministry State Secretary Irinel Scrioșteanu recently said he drove from Bucharest to Bacău on motorways in two hours and 11 minutes after the latest high-speed road sections opened.

The Bacău-Pașcani section, another project awaited by drivers, is 77.38 kilometers long and remains under construction, with opening scheduled for 2026. It is divided into three lots. The Săucești-Trifești Târg lot is 30.30 kilometers long and costs 1.63 billion lei excluding VAT. The Trifești-Gherăiești lot covers 18.99 kilometers and costs 1.28 billion lei, while the Mircești-Pașcani lot covers 28.09 kilometers and costs 1.76 billion lei. All three contracts were signed in February 2023 with 30-month construction periods and were awarded to the same consortium.
