Badung prepares facial-recognition attendance system for civil servants, starting in 2027

Badung Regency is refining a facial-recognition attendance system that it plans to make the main platform for civil servants in January 2027.

Based on the plan from the Badung Human Resources Development and Personnel Agency, the use of facial-recognition technology will become the main system starting in January 2027.

The system, integrated into the ASN Digital application, builds on the existing attendance process. It will use location data alongside facial and movement verification to check attendance more accurately.

Ketut Gede Arta, head of Badung’s Communication and Informatics Office, said the rollout would take place gradually. The authorities want to test the application’s reliability across platforms before applying the new system fully.

At present, Android is ready, but we are ensuring that civil servants using iOS can still use the old application.

The facial-recognition application currently works for Android users but remains unavailable to civil servants using iPhones. During the transition, iOS users can continue recording attendance through the existing SIKAP Badung application, which works on both Android and iOS. Arta said the iOS version of the new application has essentially been completed and is undergoing verification by Apple. The full migration remains targeted for early 2027.

While waiting for the App Store approval process to finish, civil servants using iPhones are assured that they will not face difficulties because attendance services continue to operate normally through the SIKAP Badung application, which can be accessed on both Android and iOS.
