Baek In-chun, sole .400 hitter in KBO history, dies at 83

Baek In-chun, widely recognized as the sole player in Korean professional baseball (KBO) history to hit .400, has passed away at the age of 83. The former manager died early on the 14th. He had been residing in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.

According to the KBO and other sources, Baek was rushed to a nearby hospital after experiencing cardiac arrest but could not be revived. He had battled health issues in recent years, including surviving four instances of cerebral infarction, yet he continued to persevere through his treatments.

Baek's historic .412 batting average, achieved in the KBO's inaugural season in 1982, remains an unparalleled record in the league. His professional career spanned approximately 22 years, including 19 seasons in Japanese professional baseball and three in the KBO.

Following his playing career, Baek managed several KBO teams, including the LG Twins, Samsung Lions, and Lotte Giants. The KBO has announced that Baek's funeral will be conducted under the KBO's auspices. The wake will be held at Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan, with funeral arrangements to be finalized upon the arrival of his sibling, who resides in the United States.
