Bail appeal denied for man accused in Saskatchewan highway shooting

Christopher Fahlman, accused of the second-degree murder of Tanya Myers, will remain in custody after his appeal for bail was denied by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal. The decision was made on Thursday, upholding the initial denial of bail from November 2025.

Myers, 44, was killed on Sept. 12, 2025, when a bullet struck the Ford Explorer she was traveling in on Highway 39 near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. A second vehicle was also hit moments later, but its occupant was unharmed. Fahlman, 42, was arrested in November 2025 in connection with the shooting.

The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal's Justice Robert W. Leurer presided over Fahlman's appeal. The specific reasons for the bail denial cannot be disclosed due to a publication ban on evidence presented during bail proceedings in the province. Fahlman faces charges of second-degree murder and intentionally discharging a firearm recklessly. His preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin in October.
